The One who left a mark

There is one person I never expected to become so important to me. He wasn't someone I was searching for. He simply came into my life, and somehow, without me noticing, he became someone I started caring about deeply. At first, everything felt simple. We talked, laughed, shared little things about our days, and slowly became comfortable with each other. I didn't know exactly what we were becoming, but I knew that I enjoyed having him in my life. His presence became something I looked forward to.As time passed, my feelings became stronger. I started remembering the little things about him—his words, the way he talked, the things that made him happy, and even the small conversations that probably meant nothing to him but meant so much to me.I never told him everything I felt. Maybe I was afraid. Afraid that if I said too much, I might lose what we already had. Then things changed. We became distant. The conversations became fewer, the replies became slower, and eventually, there were days when we didn't talk at all. I tried to convince myself that I was okay with it. I told myself that people come and go and that maybe he was only meant to be a chapter in my life. But honestly, letting go wasn't that easy. There were nights when I would think about him and wonder if he ever thought about me too. I wondered if he missed our conversations, if he remembered the moments we shared, or if I had already become someone he no longer thought about.Sometimes I wanted to message him. I would open our conversation, type something, and then delete it. I didn't want to look like I was chasing him. I didn't want to force my way back into his life.So I stayed quiet.I waited. Not because I wanted to put my life on hold for him, but because a part of me still hoped that one day, he would choose to come back on his own.I met other people along the way. Some were kind. Some made me laugh. Some even made me wonder if I could finally forget him. But somehow, there was always something different about him.It wasn't because he was perfect. He wasn't.Maybe that's exactly why I cared so much. I knew his flaws, his imperfections, and the things that made him human. And despite knowing those things, I still cared. There were moments when I hated myself for still waiting.I would ask myself, “Why am I still hoping for someone who isn't even here?”Maybe I was holding on to memories. Maybe I was holding on to the possibility of what we could have been. Or maybe I simply wasn't ready to accept that some people can mean so much to us and still not stay.Eventually, I learned that waiting doesn't always mean standing in the same place.I could continue with my life while still hoping.I could chase my dreams, laugh with my friends, focus on myself, and become stronger without completely erasing him from my heart. So that's what I did.I started learning how to enjoy my own company. I stopped checking my phone every few minutes, hoping to see his name. I stopped creating imaginary conversations in my head about what I would say if he suddenly came back.Little by little, I began to understand that my happiness couldn't depend on whether he returned.Still, there was always a small part of me that wondered. What if?What if one day he comes back? What if he realizes that I was never asking for perfection? I only wanted honesty, effort, and someone who genuinely wanted to stay.Maybe he is living his own life right now. Maybe he's growing, learning, and becoming someone different too. Maybe he doesn't even know that somewhere, there is a girl who still quietly wishes him well. And that's okay.I don't need him to know everything I feel.I don't need to chase him.I don't need to beg him to return. If he ever comes back, I want it to be because he truly wants to be here—not because I convinced him.And if that day never comes, I will still be grateful that I met him.Because he taught me that sometimes, loving someone doesn't always mean having them. Sometimes, it means wishing them happiness even when they're no longer beside you.But deep down, if I'm being completely honest, I still hope.I hope that someday, when we're both ready and life gives us another chance, our paths will cross again.Maybe he'll look at me and remember everything.Maybe he'll smile and say, “I missed you.”And maybe I'll finally understand why I had to wait so long.Until then, I'll keep moving forward.I won't promise that I'll wait forever. But for now, there is still a little space in my heart for him.Not because I cannot live without him, but because some people leave a mark on us that time doesn't easily erase. And he is one of those people.Maybe one day, he'll come back. And if he does, I hope he finds that the girl who once waited for him has become stronger, happier, and still has a little piece of her heart that remembers him.
